Metallurgical testwork now requires a level of accuracy inconceivable years ago. Many tests require that large amounts of coarse-crushed and fine-crushed material be blended and split. The precision of the testwork is greatly affected by the accuracy of the preparation of a representative sample. Representative sample division is a basic precondition for precision in particle-size analysis, chemical assay, metallurgical testwork, spectroscopic analysis, trace element analysis, and similar applications.
Riffle splitters introduce systematic bias on heterogeneous mixed-size samples. Rotary splitters present material to multiple bins continuously — every sub-sample sees the full range of particle sizes and densities. The result: true representative division.
