Mercury capture is a critical environmental and life-safety system in every gold room where mercury-bearing concentrate is smelted. KCA mercury retorts process up to 40 cu. ft of wet or dry solids per batch, fully automated, with multi-stage exhaust capture that meets emission limits in every U.S. state and major foreign jurisdiction.
Skid-mounted stainless-steel chamber where trays of precipitate are heated under vacuum to distill mercury from gold/silver/impurity sludge. Refractory-insulated heating chamber, Smart Controller (SCR) + Eurotherm process control.
Hot exhaust gases are cooled through a shell-and-tube heat exchanger condensing liquid mercury for safe collection in a sealed mercury receiver. Residual mercury vapor passes through a large carbon-filter tank packed with sulfur-impregnated activated carbon.
Vacuum pump maintains negative pressure throughout the entire system — preventing mercury vapor escape. Air-water separator on the vacuum-pump discharge plus a final chimney for venting cleaned exhaust.
KCA also offers engineering, design, and installation supervision services to ensure the retort installation area has the bunds, drainage, and ventilation that regulators require for a Hg-bearing operation.
