Smelting Furnaces & Scrubbers

Doré Bar Production · Tilting Crucible

KCA fabricates three smelting furnace models for doré bar production: Model 225T (23 kg gold concentrate single charge), Model 430T (45 kg), and Model 800T (84 kg). Capacities calculated at 30% charged by crucible volume, assuming a 2:1 flux ratio and predominantly gold concentrate. Furnaces can be fed multiple times per shift; depending on flux ratio, flux composition, and precious-metal concentrate composition, output can be increased significantly above the nameplate single-charge capacity.

Tilting Crucible Design

KCA builds three standard sizes of tilting-crucible furnaces for clean, controlled doré pouring. The tilting mechanism allows the operator to pour molten gold directly into the doré mold without removing the crucible — safer, faster, and cleaner than fixed-crucible designs.

Matched Hoods & Scrubbers

KCA provides matched hoods and wet scrubbing systems for each furnace size. Two-stage wet scrubbers handle SO₂, NOₓ, and particulate emissions. Designed to meet permitted emission limits in every U.S. state and applicable foreign jurisdictions.

Model Specifications

Model 225T: 23 kg gold concentrate per single charge
Model 430T: 45 kg gold concentrate per single charge
Model 800T: 84 kg gold concentrate per single charge

All capacities assume 30% crucible fill by volume, 2:1 flux:concentrate ratio, predominantly gold concentrate. Higher-density concentrates and optimized flux can substantially increase output per charge.

Construction

Refractory-lined steel construction. Firing options: natural gas, propane, or diesel. Integrated exhaust hood and SO₂ / particulate scrubbing. Doré-pour molds and slag-tap arrangements included. Standard tilting mechanism with safety interlocks.

Auxiliary Equipment

A complete KCA furnace package can include:
Cascade Mold System and Mold Cart
Mold Table
Off-Gas Scrubbing System
Bag-House
Dust Collector
Fans, Ducting and/or Hoods

KCA also fabricates off-gas scrubbing systems to meet the needs of your operation even if you do not have a KCA-fabricated furnace.

Warranty

KCA guarantees equipment items for the cost of the items only (shipping costs of replacement items included) for a period of 6 months after completion of commissioning or 12 months after shipment, whichever comes first.

Common Questions

Frequently asked.

How long does a typical KCA testwork campaign take?
Bench-scale programs take 4–8 weeks; column leach campaigns 3–6 months depending on heap height and ore character; full bankable feasibility-level testwork can span 9–18 months. Every campaign begins with a metallurgical interview to set the scope, schedule, and budget against your project milestones.
Can KCA take a project from testwork through commissioning?
Yes — this is KCA's defining capability. Most EPCM firms outsource testwork; KCA self-performs the lab, engineering, and (in EPCM mode) construction management. The flowsheet you sign off on is designed by the same team that builds the plant. One handoff. Fewer surprises.
Where does KCA work geographically?
KCA's Reno, Nevada headquarters serves projects in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Africa. Our Chihuahua, Mexico affiliate (Kappes Cassiday del Norte) supports operations across Mexico and Central America. Our Perth, Western Australia affiliate (KCAA) serves Asia-Pacific. Over 500 projects across six continents since 1972.
What types of ore does KCA test and engineer?
Primary expertise is gold and silver — both heap leach and milling/agitated cyanide processes. We also work on copper, lithium, and base metals. The KCA lab routinely runs HPGR, gravity, flotation, cyanide, and Merrill-Crowe campaigns across all commodity classes.
