Project Summary

Camino Rojo — Heap Leach

KCA led the Camino Rojo project from metallurgical testwork and feasibility studies through EPCM of the 1,200 m³/h Merrill-Crowe plant — a fully integrated delivery executed by the same team that designed the flowsheet.

For ORLA Mining's flagship Zacatecas operation, KCA was engaged to develop the process flowsheet, complete bankable engineering studies, and deliver the recovery plant on an EPCM basis. The integrated mandate — testwork through commissioning — eliminated the typical handoff risk between metallurgical design and execution. Every assumption made in the lab was carried directly into the engineering, and every engineering decision was traceable back to the testwork that produced it.\n\nThe result: an 18,000 tonne-per-day heap leach operation paired with a 1,200 m³/h Merrill-Crowe recovery facility, delivered under budget and on schedule at a final installed cost of $125 million. Gold recovery has consistently met the 70% design target since commissioning.
